Born as the brainchild of a UK businessman and his wife. Trilogy Barbados would become a unique concept in Barbados’ design. Three contemporary beachfront villas on the highly desirable West Coast of Barbados, each distinctive in its own right but with a mutual design aesthetic tying them together. Trilogy: Reigate, Nirvana, and Mirador. Our Client and his family fell in love with Barbados during the 80s whilst holidaying here to escape the cold ‘ British winters.
“Initially, we stayed in hotels but soon began to realise that owning our own property would give the island a much more permanent feeling, it became a Home away from Home. To step through a gate and straight onto a beach is living the dream! If you come from a cold and rainy environment, it is an amazing feeling to simply arrive, immediately put on swimwear, and walk straight into a warm welcoming sea.”
Our client and his wife then went on to find two further properties in quick succession on the same stretch of quiet beach, both of which needed serious renovation. Taking inspiration from their experience of the developing London apartment scene, where glass balustrades were extensively used and there was an emphasis on indoor/outdoor living, they embraced a clean and modern style. This was obviously much easier to achieve in Barbados with its wonderful weather and gentle breezes. They decided that from a design perspective the market was moving more to a modern clean line beachfront type property and so they we would bring ‘South Beach Miami’ to Barbados creating two very modern, contemporary beachfront villas and so Mirador and Nirvana came into being.
” The strength of the sun for people coming into the lsland from colder climates was our first priority and the outdoor dining and lounging needed to be fully protected for maximum comfort and relaxation. The oversized vortex parosols were the perfect answer in these areas and, in the case of Mirador a retractable awning covering the “deck” area and the “his and her” pools. Without doubt this area at Mirador became our go-to place for sundowners. “
The shipped the Siematic ‘Pure’ kitchens in from Germany as well as very modern contemporary bathroom features from Duravit Germany. The furniture was sourced from Harrods of London which again was all clean lines and modern, complementing the design of the houses. They put a lot of work into the indoor and outdoor lighting of the houses, they installed Control4 which gave them the flexibility to vary the level of lighting both inside and outside of the properties. The installation of LED Rope lights demarcating all the garden planters gave a warm glow to the outside areas. They worked hard on the media in the houses, incorporating large flat screen TVs in the lounge, with slightly smaller TVs in the master bedrooms and surround sound was fitted in the lounge and kitchen areas.
All weather outdoor speakers were placed in the ceilings of the outdoor areas, with Bose Rock Speakers positioned in the outdoor planters. These features have become ideal for outdoor lounging and dining in the evening, with a warm glow from the outdoor lighting combined with the guests personal choice of music, all controlled from their cellphone. The roofs of the houses were finished in Cedar Shingle so that the finishes complemented traditional Barbados architecture. Gardens we all incorporated into attractive planters giving the maximum amount of enjoyable garden vegetation in a low maintenance environment. Each room of the house has its own WiFi supply which nicely extends throughout the garden and outdoor lounging areas.

“Mirador has an almost ‘private beach’ where they placed sun loungers and beach parasols to provide the most relaxed beachfront experience. They provided a vibrant beach garden bringing the garden vegatation to the seashore. There is direct access to the availability of wonderful sea swimming and snorkelling where sea turtles and multi-coloured shoals of fish can be viewed. All of the bedrooms are wonderfully furnished each with its own private ensuite bathroom. Each bedroom has a lovely outdoor terrace with very comfortable modern, contemporary furniture ideal for day time reading and relaxing.”
Nirvana has all of the same features as Mirador, the same Siematic kitchen and Duravit Bathrooms all supplied directly from Germany, the same construction design features and outdoor areas as Mirador. Nirvana has a wonderful roof terrace complimented by a wet bar with fridge and excellent outdoor speakers allowing the guests choice of music while have a sundowner cocktail.
